RiverFrontFest 2010

WELCOME!

The inaugural 2010 RiverFrontFest will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., adjacent to to The Yards Park near Nationals baseball stadium in Washington, DC. (Navy Yard Metro, New Jersey Ave. exit)

RiverFrontFest will have 18 bands, 4 hours of Break-Dance performance and competition, an Art Whino Art Battle, 4traits drawing up a storm, various art vendors “creating” their art while they entice you to take some home, a huge (and I mean huge) Kids Zone (and all children 12 and under get in free), Comedy performances, a demonstration performance by the Trapeze School of NY and I probably am forgetting something so come on out and have a great time.

Proceeds from the event will support some great local causes: Kids Set Sail, Living Classrooms and Earth Conservation Corps. This festival is here to build an awesome sense of community by bringing an annual event to the new, growing Capitol Riverfront Neighborhood. We look forward to seeing you at the event!

Some things to know:

You may bring NON-GLASS containers with you to the festival.  No Alcohol may be brought in the Festival.  Food and beverages will be available.  We are proud to have Flying Dog Ales as our signature beer.  

Children 12 and Under will be admitted Free.  

You must bring a valid ID to and be over 21 to drink beer.

The festival will take place on Water Street SE between 3^rd and 4^th Streets SE, behind the Department of Transportation headquarters 2 blocks south of the Navy Yard Metro, New Jersey Ave. exit. Water Street DOES NOT come up on Google or Mapquest maps.  It is a new parkside street just finished so See attached map and check out our Website for directions. (Note: N Street on this map is now called Tingey Rd.)

We are seeking volunteers to help us put on a great show!  Our aim is to provide a vibrant annual event while making meaningful contributions to our Benefactors. Your Help is very important to making this happen. Please visit our site and click the Volunteers tab to sign up. Along Those Lines Having braved almost 3 years together, this DC-based powerhouse has deviated from the normal course to bring forth a new brand of music. Quickly gaining recognition, Along Those Lines has set a new standard for hard rock. Tearing through the East Coast in the summer of 2010 in support of their newest full-length album, "Somewhere In Between," ATL (as nicknamed by their fans) has put together a phenomenal stage show that transcends most bands in their genre.

Copper Rose & Bone Copper Rose & Bone's music is a mixer of neo-soul, alternative, R&B, jazz, gospel and more. They come from the area of the universal. They are here to bring you love, hope, and happy feelings. They are here to educate, to inspire, and to take you higher through their music.

The District All-Stars Formed in 2007 at Listen Vision Studios in DC, The District All-Stars rose in the ranks of the electro-pop scene in 2008, winning major independent music awards including the Billboard World Song Contest. Their music has been featured in films and TV shows, and has received nationwide airplay on SiriusXM Radio. Now with the release of their debut album, "Introducing The District All-Stars," they are poised to take the pop scene by storm.

Djesben Djesben is a Javanese word from the 1920's meaning "jazz band." The term dates from a time when the people of the island of Java were becoming interested in the exciting sounds of jazz blasting out of American dance halls, half a world away. DC’s own multi-instrumental Djesben trio dates from 1999, when Washington, DC was celebrating the 100th birthday of one of her greatest native sons, Duke Ellington. Djesben performs a variety of styles.

The Dreamscapes Project The Dreamscapes project's music ranges from acoustic rock, folk-alternative, and folk-core to indie rock cabaret. Fronted by 12-string acoustic guitar and cello, the addition of melodic bass grooves and world percussion makes it a struggle to define a genre narrower than "acoustic." Sites like VH1.com, pandora.com, and billboard.com have compared The Dreamscapes Project to prominent bands like the Decemberists, Arcade Fire, and the Dave Matthews Band.

Fight the Lion Fight the Lion's diverse sound has been compared to Coheed & Cambria, Muse, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and Soundgarden. They are touring in support of their debut full-length album, "When the Mighty Fall."

Freak Trai Freak Train defies description. Their sound emanates from the disassembled corpus of The Penetrators, Pentagram, 9353, The Obsessed, Factory, and The New Standard.

Jade Fox Blending hip-hop with elements of reggae, poetry, R&B, and rock, great range is shown by this female mc. A wide range of influences, including Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, Lauryn Hill, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix, have provided a foundation for Jade Fox to create a refreshing and universal sound. Jade Fox is poised to become one of the top artists of hip-hop.

Koshari Think of a musical ice storm. Think raw emotion, sonic tension and effects. Meld this with lush, haunting vocals and impressionistic lyrics. Fans say Koshari’s music is almost visual in nature. Using odd time signatures, dynamics, layer upon layer of melody and driving rhythms, Koshari creates music meant for open-minded souls. Their songs have been described as “pin-wheeling imagery with a layered and languorous sound.” Koshari released their third recording, Reappear, in June 2009

Mair Mair is power hip-hop for a new generation. New artist Mair (Mary Alice) is a talented young songwriter/singer/rapper/producer who has successfully synthesized influences of pop, hip-hop and dance on her freshman project, ”Who Am I? … Mair’s Untold Story”(Braat Musik/ADA/Warner Music Group), to create a new sound described as "hip-pop." This talented teen is a native of Vienna, Virginia.

Meow vs. Meow Meow vs. Meow plays fun, danceable music that is uptempo, driven and exciting. In 2010 their song "Stegosaur!" was selected to be the theme music for the Baltimore Aquarium's AquaFaces website and television ad campaign. The trio's talents include a lead singer, guitarist, bassist/keyboardist, and drummer.

noon:30 noon:30 has come onto the DC music scene as an undeniable force. Definitely what you haven't heard before: this indie-rock trio's songs range from pure ambient to uncontrollably infectious melodies, with drumbeats that evoke the inner savage one moment and softly soothe the next, and deeply soulful vocals. Reviewers have noted their "raw punk power and well-honed grooves" and praised their "style, grace and musical talent" and "funky pop rock."

Quynn Johnson Quynn Johnson is a professional tap dancer, instructor, and choreographer. She began her dance training in Flint, Michigan under the instruction of Alfred “Bruce” Bradley, Sheila Miller- Graham, and Charlene Banks. As a tap dancer, she has performed at the National Tap Dance Day in New York and at many tap dance festivals around the country. Quynn instructs and choreographs for various dance studios in the DC metropolitan area.

Rasi Caprice Rasi Caprice, DC's own "1st Rap President," is an integral part of the DMV hip-hop movement. His career as an independent artist has enabled him to perform for many and share the stage with some of hip-hop's greatest entertainers. He has opened for Lil Jon, Lil Flip and Juvenile and has worked with Yukmouth, KRS-1, Ghostface Killa, and fellow DMV recording artist Wale.

7 Door Sedan Coming from the indie roots of Washington, DC, Glenn Kowalski (aka Jake Whipp) fronts 7 Door Sedan with vocals and the same wild guitars found in his work as a teen in White Boy. After laying down most of the tracks for the album Killer Good, the SDS project expanded to include a performance band featuring Glenn Kowalski on vocals and guitar, Ken Moss from the Acrylix on guitar, Josh Singer from the Vampyre Bunnies on Bass, and Norman van der Sluys from the Vampyre Bunnies and Madhouse on Drums.

Subject To Change Subject to Change blends the sound of new school with old school, to create a unique sound. Epic rock is the best way to describe their refined sound. Playing a wide range of music, from classic rock such as Jimmy Hendrix's voodoo child, to the lyric-laden Coheed and Cambria STC, this group has the ability to create an atmosphere that any music lover will enjoy.

Taking Saturn Founded in the summer of 2008, Taking Saturn has been hard at work ever since, attempting to cement their place in DC’s alternative/hard rock scene with a unique and memorable sound. If you ask the band what Taking Saturn is all about, they will not hesitate to describe to you their musical vision: “Our goal is to push the envelope of modern rock further each and every day, in terms of song delivery and emotional connection with fans.

The Five One The Five One's influences range from legendary rock/pop artists to iconic figures in hip-hop culture. If you had to define their sound you would have to imagine The Beatles rapping over a punk song by Bob Marley. Although their sound is refreshing, the most meaningful aspect behind The Five One is their concept. Revalulion [rev-uh-loo-lee-n] is the action of personifying oneself as a color, which is a philosophical term coined by the band.

The Package The Package is a combination of three hip-hop veterans dedicated to bringing new, contemporary energy to classic styles. They have over 30 combined years of live performance experience. The Package has performed on the National Mall on the 4th of July, at The H Street Festival and the Black L.U.V. Festival, at festivals in Atlanta and Richmond, at Club Sonar in Baltimore, and locally at the 9:30 Club, Liv, Almaz, and Expo.

The Very Small The Very Small is a funk rock trio. Inspired by everything from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the Pixies, from Foo Fighters to Sublime, and from Motown to Nintendo, The Very Small walks the line between simple rocking out and a thoughtful exploration of many musical genres. The Very Small has recently performed at the 9:30 Club.

Wes Tucker and the Skillets Continuing the tradition of the folk storyteller while incorporating a love for rock, funk, and R&B, the Skillets create their own unique blend. The band’s third full-length album, The Scorpion and the Dove, earned two WAMMIE nominations in 2009 for Best Roots Rock Group/Duo and Best Roots Rock Recording. This latest album features fuller musical arrangements and meditative, socially conscious lyrics.
